Bio

I moved to Toronto to pursue painting at OCAD University in 2011. During this time I lived with my grandmother, who began to teach me the art of embroidery. It is now my preferred medium to work with. Needlework allows my portraiture to exist in a gentle context, and with the addition of objects like beads and lace I’m able to render in a way that is allegorically feminine.

My primary focus has always been making figurative works, and at its core my portraiture is a tribute to women in pornography. It’s about sex work and the traditional notion of “women’s work” existing harmoniously. By rendering only specific body parts, my portraits provide the bare minimum - the negative space allows the viewer to see the subject unburdened of stigma, highlighting her singular experience and her sexual autonomy. I make these portraits as a way to discourage shame in the context of sexuality.

Living in LA for the last decade I’ve been lucky enough to find a home in the niche world of embroidery/erotic art. I’ve been able to participate in numerous group shows, as well as an erotic art book (NSFW 2021).

I’ve needed to take multiple hiatuses from producing artwork due to chronic health issues affecting my dexterity, but I still adore needlework and plan on continuing my practice for as long as I can.
